In the Cinderella Ballroom

Posted on Friday, March 22, 2013

So going to Hong Kong was not just purely for leisure, but to accompany mum for a business trip, which consisted of a gala dinner at night. Being girls, of course my little sister and I jumped at the opportunity to dress up.

This gala was a little more special than usual because it was held at none other than the Disneyland Hotel in Hong Kong! While I grew up watching Disney, I'm not totally crazy over it, but it's hard not to get excited when the dinner menu presents you with adorably themed food that also is super decadent as well.

Here it goes! (Please excuse the funny colours cause the ballroom light kept changing).

Braised suckling pig with complementary little pig bread to go with it.
Too cute! Almost felt sorry when I ate them.

Double boiled chicken soup with Matsutake Mushroom and Goose, Shrimp Wonton. Not my favourite, but i finish it all because it's only the second course - biggest mistake!

Baked Black Truffle with Mushrooms and Crab meat, stuffed in a Crab Shell. THIS IS AMAZING. I died, went to heaven and came back! There were literally pieces of truffle, crammed full to the brim with crab meat (that I didn't have to fight tooth and nail to dig out), and baked to gooey perfection. I would kill for another serving right now. I could not believe how much meat there was inside.

What's a chinese dinner without some Abalone? The Braised Whole Abalone with Vegetable in Oyster Sauce was a generous size, and there were many leftovers on the table because most of the Caucasians did not want to eat it and put it in the center for anyone who wanted extra. Almost couldn't believe it. The more adventurous ones who tried it for their first time said it tasted like scallop, which is an interesting comparison.

My little sister is allergic to shellfish, so I traded the garoupa in the Deep Fried Garoupa stuffed with Yunnan Ham served with Stir Fried Lobster with Asparagus, and I got another lobster. Hate to say it, but I probably got the better end of the deal!

By the time the Roasted Chicken Fillet with Osmanthus Honey came round, I was pretty full already. I had had double helpings of the suckling pig, soup and abalone that I really just tried a bit. But it was very sweet and tender. And really, after being so spoilt with the other decadent dishes, when it came to chicken it was underwhelming.

This is the Fried Rice Trio with Yunnan Ham, Lobster, Scallops and Roasted Duck. Would almost have thought that they recycled all the leftovers from the previous dishes into this haha. Presentation was cute, but no way am I finishing all the rice at this point in time.

The star of the show was really the dessert! Look at it! It's a chocolate carriage!!! Isn't it precious?

Aptly named the Cinderella Pumpkin Coach Tiramisu, it was a tad gimmicky, but worked, because we were in Disneyland!

And it probably is part of the deal, but they get some special visitors to visit us in between courses:

Hard not to get excited when you see these guys running down the walkway - and hey, we're colour coordinated!

More outfit details because I'm pretty happy with how I pulled it together.

H&M Hair Cuff | H&M Rings | Ted Baker Clutch

And that more or less sums up the night! We definitely felt like we got royal treatment after coming for this event, and I think that the Disneyland Hotel in Hong Kong is a fantastic place to have your wedding in Asia, especially during Spring because of the perfect air-con weather for you to have that gorgeous outdoor ceremony in their beautiful gardens (more pics later!), and the adorably themed food to make it a one-of-a-kind gala dinner! Ah, now to just earn a lot of money to actually afford this!
