Feast of Crabs

Mm mm. You know how whenever you get the chance to eat crab that every single sliver of meat you dig out is so precious because you only get so much of it? Well, we decided that after graduating, WE DECIDED THAT WE GETS OUR OWN CRAB EACH!!! (Excuse the fuzzy iphone photos)


8 crabs for 8 people = 1 crab each! And the fun part was we got to P&C 4 flavours to get a little taste of everything! Personal favourite flavours were the Salted Egg Crab and the Butter Crab although one of the best dishes that Mellben is known for is the Crab Beehoon as seen below:


It's what the name says it is, crab and beehoon in a thick broth full of rich crab essence and goodness. Ok i'll put this as my third favourite, and pretty value for money since you get your carbs included in the price as well.


I'm not a big fan of their Chilli Crab for some reason. The chilli is more of the sour kind and I personally prefer the one that we normally eat at Ban Leong. Don't hate!


The real prize winners to me are these two of course - the Salted Egg Crab and Butter Crab. The zhap (sauce) in the butter crab is heavenly to dip your mantous into (of which we had 50 of them to play with), and i practically felt like eating the shell of the Salted Egg Crab because it was deep fried in the goodness. Just settled myself with nibbling the parts of instead.


Check out everyone's greedy faces!!! Eating crabs is really unglam but i kind of revel in the whole smashing, digging, sweat & glory chaos that it is.


We spent exactly $50.00 each on the dinner for about medium to biggish size crabs. Right on budget! Nubbad.

Nicolette for The Ordinary Co

There aren't a lot of people whom I'd hand the reins of shooting for The Ordinary Co's Lookbooks to, but I've known Carissa as a friend for a while and been spying on her photography work for The Raven Wine Photography, so I couldn't think of why not to have her in!

For those of you who don't know, I control every aspect from the planning, styling, shooting, editing and hand-picking the models for all the Lookbooks in the past, which is honestly quite a lot for one person to do. However, I feel for the business to be able to grow in future, you have to let go here and there and it was really comforting to see Carissa confidently execute the photos to a T (even with me squawking and directing in the background) and still capture the feeling and brand identity of The Ordinary Co perfectly. Really appreciate how willing she was to take direction!

By the way, the concept of the shoot was of a cold beach like those overseas but really, we were at East Coast Park, haha. Thanked our lucky stars for the great windy and cooling weather, especially poor Nicolette who I covered in knits ahaha. All the models are always such great sports! For all the people who think being a model/photographer is the coolest thing ever, check out the behind the scenes photos below (excuse my anyhow lack of editing):



 SUPER UNGLAM RIGHT. Ok so doing a shoot on Sunday at the East Coast probably wasn't the most genius idea on my part. It was mad crowded with families, and amidst having to fight for space on top of the breakwaters, I also had to the fear that my model and photographer would slip and roll down into the sea and i WOULDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. Also, having random tourists taking pictures of us because it's more interesting than the beach itself, people cluelessly (and some intentionally??) walking into the backgrounds of photos cause they wanna be famous too and is it me or has the beach gotten even dirtier ever since I was a child???


But not bad right, Carissa did a good job of angling her photos and it all looked great After all, it's all about perception, right? Actually the shoot itself honestly went quite smoothly and we laughed off most of the nonsense at the end of it all, so I'm quite proud of my small and passionate team for the day! You can view the full Lookbook here.
