Armour for Your Skin

Posted on Friday, December 30, 2016

I always feel like the luckiest girl whenever Skin Inc sends me stuff, this time in the form of their latest offering, the Pure Recovery Dew, which will be officially launching on 5th January 2017!

So far I've been using this as a priming moisturiser during Christmas before I put on make-up because of it's super lightweight gel-to-dew formula which absorbs super quick and is my preferred moisturiser in the day time since I am always in a rush (I struggle with perpetual lateness, it is true). I do sometimes use it at the end of the day to treat myself, cause TBH I kinda like the onsen smell now (yes, there is actual Japanese onsen water in this from a hot spring called the "Izumo Yumura", which apparently is the world's most revered hot spring. Dayum.)

Anyway, the hot spring is known for healing wounds, smoothing and calming irritated skin with redness and blemishes. Combined with hyaluronic water (which is important for moisturising), it's supposed to give my skin a nice finish as well by reducing lines and pores, hence perfect for pre-make up ritual to act as a barrier against against the sun and pollution.

But ok guys, really on a more serious note, I've been getting more and more moles and it's no joke. Do note that this product has no SPF, so remember to still put on your sunblock first!! Then this - you can even blend it with the Custom Daily Dose for the ultimate skin primer.

It's kinda awesome to begin your make up routine knowing you are protected!

The Skin Inc Pure Recovery Dew retails at SGD72.00 at the Skin Inc Concept Stores, Online Stores, Sephora and Zalora.

SPRMRKT Kitchen & Bar

Posted on Tuesday, December 27, 2016

I don't know how I manage to drag my poor friends along with me to fulfil my crazy need to check out new pretty restaurants, but fortunately Jane was super obliging to come along for a girly dinner (without the boys for once, haha) at SPRKMRKT Kitchen & Bar!

I had the Mussels ($25.00++) which came with a teeny tiny serving of Pho on the side which were a little odd as it didn't quite compliment the mussels in any way, BUT the mussels themselves were fantastic - best I've had since my trip to Brussels 3 years ago! Ahh how I've been waiting for such a dish. Anyway, said blue lip mussels were large, plump, golden, juicy and soaked in a light but flavourful broth. We also had our food together with a glass of Riesling ($15.00++) - which always makes me fondly remember those 2 Euro bottles I would buy at the supermarket on Exchange. Overall I would recommend this dish if you were to come! Good Mussels are so hard to find in Singapore, and I think $25.00 for the generous portion size was worth it.

Jane had the Korubuta Collar ($30.00++) which she said was sadly underseasoned and a little dry... so skip! Haha.

Anyway, fair warning: if you are planning a visit because you saw the gorgeous pink couches on Instagram, make sure you go to SPRMRKT Kitchen & Bar at Robertson Quay, and not SPRMRKT Daily at McCallum Street where some of my friends have unfortunately ended up at - it is the much less pretty branch, unfortunately.

NARS x SARAH MOON Launch Event

Posted on Thursday, December 22, 2016

Holiday launches are always exciting so it was fun to check out what NARS has in store this year as it's is always a little darker and different from your usual sparkly Christmas packaging! Brought Vany along with me (her first event - was super amused that this girl actually wanted to come, but yay, I do love bringing my friends along!) We were introduced to the NARS x Sarah Moon Collection and were blown away by the packaging! Of course, NARS' packaging is always on point, but I absolutely loved the Get Real Audacious Eye & Lip Set (S$70.00, top picture!), which comes with two Audacious Lipsticks (Leslie & Bett) and the Black Moon Audacious Mascara in an super solid and mysterious frosted glass box. Super luxe and such a joy to look at on one's table top!

Anyway, I don't know if you can see but my make up looks different in some photos because they had an express make up station where I got my red lip (super festive inspired thanks to the collection), and a manicure which you know what they say, a girl can never reject a free manicure.

Ok I kid, no one says that, but you know what I mean!

Overall a really fun night bumping into my adorable "children" Isabella and Georgi and of course seeing tons of familiar faces - it almost feels like school when you keep seeing the same people around, you know?

NARS also sent me the True Story Cheek Palette (S$90.00, second picture) which comes with the Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Mysterious Red and four blushes (Devotee, Myth, Outlaw and Unwritten), cause it's boring to just use one shade! The NARS x Sarah Moon collection is available at Tangs here in Singapore, but as usual, it's limited edition, so if you know that one friend who is a hardcore Narsissist... you know what she needs this year.

Gallery & Co Review

Posted on Monday, December 19, 2016

I loved the food in Gallery & Co so much that I came back twice within the space of two weeks, and am contemplating making my third trip back already. So the reason Jie and I ended up here was also because I had the Entertainer, which if you don't already know gives one-for-one mains throughout the year and this was by far the most value one-for-one I've redeemed because Gallery & Co does not charge GST or Service Charge. This meant that our two mains cost us just $10.50 nett each!

If you can only get one dish, I strongly recommend the Spiced Roast Chicken Leg (S$17.00). From the moment it hit the table, the aroma of the coriander garlic-pesto had me drooling. The ingredients make you feel healthy with the mixed grains and roasted eggplants (love) but it's really not because of how oily and juicy the chicken was - kind of best of both worlds? Aggressively seasoned, generous in portion, tender and flavour packed. 10/10 want to eat this again!

The Soy Ginger Salmon (S$21.00), while also delicious, was a lot less filling and satisfying than the chicken, but definitely a lot more healthy! We also had the Ondeh Ondeh Cake which seems kind of apropos since we were eating in the National Gallery!

There aren't many reviews of this place online, so I'm kind of surprised why the hipsters haven't caught up to it with it's pastel, post-modern / art-deco and light filled interiors and seriously instagrammable food that actual tastes good. I would say my only criticism was that the restaurant is a little dirty, in the sense that it was quite hard to find a space to sit down that wasn't already covered with used plates.

Also, as if Gallery & Co could sense my enthusiasm for the place, they've recently reached out to let me pick one of their three adorable Xmas Bundles this Christmas (because if you didn't know, Gallery & Co is not only a Cafe but also the official museum shop selling products inspired by Southeast Asia which fuse art and design. I chose The Fig, cause I needed a notebook for next year (true story):

All the bundles come pre-packed and gift wrapped, the other two are Holly and Mistletoe, which you can just order online if you don't have the time to go down to explore the actual shop!

Thanks for the festive cheer! Can't wait to make my next visit with gift cards in tow.

Down Time at TBC

Posted on Friday, December 16, 2016

Had a chill sesh with Rennie and Saff at Tanjong Beach Club tasting their new menu! Felt like we should have brought a whole army seeing how generous they were with the food - personally I was kerazee over the Snapper Ceviche ($23.00++) which basically had all my favourite things: raw fish and avocado - so, so refreshing!

The Lobster Bun ($38.00++) and Barbequed Octopus Salad ($24.00++) all were very notable as well. There's nothing quite like eating seafood by the beach, especially when it's so appetisingly presented. We came around 5PM and the light filtering in from the sunset was just perfect, and with a freshly opened coconut in hand... how could life be any less glorious?

Singapore Fashion Week 2016 - Day Three

Posted on Wednesday, December 14, 2016

Love Bonito Bustier | ASOS Satin Pleat Skirt |
Charles & Keith Heels | The Ordinary Co Earrings

Hey guys, guess I have been (more than) a little tardy with my blogposts. I'd like to blame the Christmas crush, and I guess I haven't really had the mood... but I'm back! There's this crazy part of me that wants to make everything chronological so I'm kind of bent on making sure all my SGFW posts are out before I move on. This one was on my last day (since I couldn't go for Day 4 because of a wedding!) but really 3 days was more than a girl could ask for. Chi Chi Von Tang wasn't really my style BUT I do appreciate their attempt at making the show more than just a runway, and how unique the designs are. Once again thanks to NARS, it was great to have the opportunity to get up close to the designs backstage and be amazed at how much work goes into what we attendees see as just 15 minutes of fashion show.

For the next show, and the one I had been most excited all week, Jac and I watched Exhibit Store! Crushed velvet, satin in not too seasonal colours of eggplant purple, mustard and bronze. I do wish the runway were brighter to see the clothes better - and the showmanship left me feeling a little high and dry - I think it was a mix of over-expectation, especially from Sheranut the day before.

Anyway, that's all I have to say! The end of this great experience - went in to Singapore Fashion Week all doe-eyed, and emerged exhausted but definitely more inspired and seasoned. Thanks NARS Singapore for scoring me these tickets, fingers crossed to be back again next year!
