Back to Bali

It felt like I had just barely finished blogging about last year's Bali trip and before I knew it, we'd already booked another one for this coming July! This time with Justin, doing the whole getting-a-villa-with-a-big-group-of-friends shebang. I'm always low-key in summer mood (I mean, I was born in August and have lived in Singapore my whole life), but something about the so called "summer months" always puts my wardrobe and imagination into overdrive, so a trip to the beach is apt and much needed.

I also recently got my Ultimate Ears "Wonderboom" speakers and it was so funny how after I posted it up on Instagram, and everyone who was going to Bali simultaneously messaged me and said "bring it along!!!" Because it is the perfect holiday speaker - waterproof (it floats), portable, and just the right shade of millenial Avocado (though it comes in so many other colours)! And yes, it connects to my phone via bluetooth, so I wouldn't need to even put down my Pina Colada and paddle over to change the music - I can just do it on my phone.

For such a small speaker it truly has a lot of sound. The high and mid notes are really crisp, and it makes for great summer time listening. If you want it as a party speaker, I would say look elsewhere because the bass doesn't quite resonate as deeply as one would hope - but chilling in our Bali villa? Hells yeah.

Grana Pop Up Singapore

Swung by my first Grana pop up here in Singapore on Friday for the VIP media preview party with my girls. I've been working with / wearing the brand for over a good two years and it's definitely a go-to place for great quality basics. It was so nice to finally get to see the brand in its full fledged, physical form - the shop front alone looks like something out of a magazine, and it's perfectly situated opposite Tiong Bahru Bakery / Merci Marcel and definitely worth a pop by after a brunch.

We showed up dressed fully dressed by Grana, of course.


Brand colour cupcakes - I feel like this half eaten one is an accurate representation of my heart: blue and frosty on the outside, pink and squishy in the middle :'D


We explored the clothes - they have great fabrics from Chinese Silk, to French Linen and Peruvian Pima Cotton; and everything was hanging on the most perfect mint green clothes racks (so inspired by this shade - maybe I will paint my clothes racks for my house mint green now).


I always make sure to take at least one ratchet picture of Laveena at every event - ha! Not sure why she is making this face, the wine was pretty excellent! (I would know, I had 3 glasses on an empty stomach, oops).



Manda and I both twinned in their camisoles, I love how far apart the straps are - the perfect cami I've been looking for!!! (Also, we always choose the same things, we have such similar taste).

Gown Fitting with Stitch by Stitch

So I recently did my ROM over the weekend with long time and favourite fatty / fiance, Justin (yes I am now a married woman and it's still taking a little getting used to, ha!)

Before any of the above could happen, I needed something to wear. Luckily for me, dear Manda linked me up with Joan of Stitch by Stitch Co so that I could look ah-mazing. I know, I know, even though it's just the signing of papers so that we can get our HDB, I am extra like that as a person. The gown I picked was exactly what I would look for in a wedding dress, except that it was sitting there, fully formed. I loved the simplicity, the delicate boning and dramatic but not too-dramatic train.

Joan herself runs the business with her partner in Indonesia out of her lovely home studio here in Singapore. They specialise in custom made gowns and you can book an appointment through their website here!

Keep Moving

Not sure if I love Christmas or the Lunar New Year more but I feel like each has its own merits.

January has passed by in the best kind of blur and I wish I could share more on this page in a faster way but sadly photos don't get edited just by staring at them!

If last year was about growth and making new connections, this year to me is about deepening them.

I love taking on many roles and hats in life (because there's just so much to be out there) but I'm also wary about stretching myself too thin and taking on too many commitments. And at the same time, I love it. I love doing everything and being everything. I can't settle and I can't stay still.

SGFW 2017

Uniqlo Ines De La Fressange Belt

I received a lot of compliments for my outfit but to be honest I almost chickened out wearing it because it's just a teeny bit out there (I was literally prancing around in public in my bra and safety shorts, guys) but I figured - when will I ever wear something like this other than... Singapore Fashion Week? There would always feel be someone to out-crazy my outfit, and to be honest I felt very at home and super comfortable in this because it was very airy! (Fun fact, I literally sewed and altered the straps of my dress the day before, I think having them sit further apart on your shoulders really elevates an outfit - this applies for all spag tops I wear).

Big thanks once again to dear Celeste from NARS for sending me into the giddying swirl and excitement as a Nars Insider! I look forward to this time the year very much and I honestly never in my life would I imagine that I would have the chance to attend SGFW in this capacity - and for two years! Being part of our small fashion industry myself, it's so important to support our local brands so I am so grateful to attend and be part of it all. I wish I could have gone for more shows, but that weekend was crazy, in the end as much as I love the thrill of it all, friends and family do take priority.

Anyway, I'll share more about what happened on the day itself, just wanted to put my outfit photos up first!

PS Cafe at One Fullerton

I think it's pretty evident that I love to visit beautiful cafes and take pictures in them, but a part of me also is a teeny tiny bit jaded with the level of food that our cafes have here. Yes, I know Singapore has plenty of great and affordable food options but sometimes one just wants to sit in an air conditioned place and be a little chi-chi; and I just wish that the food could be a little more... elevated.  You know?

Anyway, I have never experienced the Melbourne cafe scene before but now I can't wait to try it because Justin just came back from a work trip and always talks about how much he loves the food, which is unprecedented guys. If you notice, I never go to cafes in Singapore with Justin because he is a "food-eh" (foodie ok) and thinks it beneath him HAHAHA.

So I'm not trying to diss our cafes - trust me I love them very much and I spend my hard earned money on them. I just go with friends who love it too, like dear Hilary and Cee. We had so much fun at the new PS Cafe at One Fullerton just being our worst Instagram selves (attracting a bit of suspiciousness from the staff who thought we were doing a commercial shoot instead of our good old ootds but it's aight).

I've been buckling down the past two weeks for the festive season anyway, so you'll probably seeing me doing less of this for the next couple of months and more hiding at home doing work. Or not. I'm a great believer in seizing all that life has to offer, so... I'll be around.

There's a weird satisfaction you get being domestic - mopping the floors and changing the sheets. Today I actually felt like my bedsheet changing technique has improved and I can do it much faster. Hoorah for little wins?

Bought 3 new books today at a book fair even though I have another 3 on the way from Book Depository (dammit Monica just go to the library).

Is it November already?

Random thoughts this week: In a funny way I'm very public and open sharing with everyone what I do, eat and wear on daily basis but not so much how I feel - does that make me a private person still?

I am very comfortable with life but I also feel that I need to shake things up a bit.

I'm in love with this new basket bag of mine and feeling very pleased with what a good deal it was on Carousell.

I had such a hard childhood and here I am wishing I could be a child again because I'd be so much smarter and chiller than I was.

What's next?

Pleat-ence

At the risk of sounding overly ponderous, having been out from school and worked for 3 years - where do we go from here? Like where does life go and what meaning does it have? We work, get married, get a house, have kids, maybe squeeze some traveling in between, meet up with friends, host some cookouts, get old and then we die and that's it. I know this is a question everyone asks themselves at some point in their lives, but I guess when you were young you had actual "stages" in life - "oh, when I was in Secondary school, or when I was in JC". I guess as a fresh adult the idea is still strange to me how we'll probably now say "oh when I was working at company xxx" or "before I had kids" or "before I was married".

People have said to me that oh no Mon, your life is so exciting because you get to work on your own time / go to a lot of events and I promise you that there are days that are great and I'm so thankful that I get to do what I get to do, but then there are days you wake up and lie on your bed and just can't move from the knowledge that "this is it, this is life".

I've been meeting lots of fellow girls who have quit their jobs to work from home as well and I can say that on some days it is soul crushing from all the lack of social interaction (I can go one day without talking to anyone face to face), on other days you go to sleep thankful that you don't have rush to work in the morning and that you have absolute freedom to do whatever the F you want to do. All I can say is that I am grateful for our tiny blogging community because then there is the excuse to meet up with the same lovely souls again, if not I would literally not see anyone till the weekend.

Anyway, my current understanding is that life is long. There's just a lot of white static in the middle where we work to earn a living so that we can live it.
