There's something about Brugge that captivates people and captivates me. It's a small, condensed city here in Belgium that has so much to offer that I don't think our day trip justified it. I remember us making that hour journey from Brussels via train and not knowing what to expect, but what we got were beautiful winding canals and the most curious yet lovely trademark step facades on the buildings roofs that make Brugge undeniably Brugge. I remember taking a (rather crammed) idyllic cruise down the canals - I have so many photos of this bald man's head partially blocking my photos it ain't funny; visiting the Groeninge Museum which has such lovely grounds to take many pictures; eating my special Brugge swan chocolate that is only made here in Brugge; and chancing upon this lovely flea market stall chocked full of all things brass. How I wish I brought home that seashell catchall plate in my photos, or the elegant deer We were lucky to come on a day that was blessed with good weather and sun - it really does play a huge part in enjoying a city. It's definitely one of my favourite places so far on exchange and definitely encourage everyone to give it a visit if they have the opportunity!

This is Brussels! While food was definitely the highlight of the entire trip, Rachel and I did manage to see the city as well of course! Brussels is a great place to base yourself when traveling around Belgium, as Brugge and Antwerp are just 1 hour day trips away. I also love how compact the city is, where tourist attractions are all easily accessible by foot so much so that we more or less saw all the important sites in Brussels within a day. We lucked out as well when we witnessed the World Cup Qualifiers match between Belgium and Croatia, where there was a public viewing in the main square with a wide screen television and all! It was amazing to see how much national pride the Belgians had, going all out to dress up in their country's colours. Not something you'd see in Singapore except on National Day I suppose!

Anyway I also had a great time getting to know Rachel better as a person and hearing her side of things, compared to blindly listening to rumors. I guess I always believe that one should always hear two sides of the story before making a judgement on a person, rather than just believing what people tell you. We both worked equally hard navigating and sitting down together every night to decide what we wanted to do the next day and to plan ahead, so we really had a pretty great vacation! Looking forward to seeing this girl again in Singapore ;)
