Perfecting The Journey: Tumi Latitude

Posted on Thursday, August 2, 2018

Now that the house is almost done, it's nice to finally have a little breather to start traveling again, and travel we did! Can't believe it's already been a month since we went to Bali... and as if travel isn't wonderful on it's own already, I was gifted my very first TUMI luggage just in time for the trip - their newest, lightest and most durable yet: Latitude.

I've used Samsonite luggages since young, and ever since moving out of my family home, I've needed to get a luggage of my own (things you don't think about until you become an adult and realise that you need to stop using the family suitcases).

Getting a TUMI seemed like a natural upgrade, especially since Samsonite bought TUMI so they're basically the same family, except TUMI is basically your super cool, classy aunt who travels the world often and doesn't look a day past 30.

Timmy the Tumi (yes I named him, if you don't follow my Instagram) weighs just 2.8kg and is TUMI's lightest most flexible luggage yet, without compromising on the durability. This is due to their special SRRP Ballistic material in which layers upon layers of 100% polypropelene are pressed together to form the Latitude's outer casing. Fun fact: this material is also used for sporting equipment and in the automobile industry!

While Timmy is an International Carry-On size and thus, didn't have to go through the horrors of check-in, he did have his fair share of hits falling face first off a ledge when the wind blew him (as if I don't need a better example to show how light he is, ha!) But he got away clean without a single scratch on his body: a testament to the durability of the design.

Other than the airport, I did bring Timmy the Tumi out of the villa when we went for our day trips. Rolling him around was a dream because of how smooth and sturdy the wheel system is, and it was pretty funny because my friends would ask every day, "is Timmy coming along?" as if he were the 9th member of our 8 person group!

I think one of my favourite things about my new luggage is that they also provide monogramming services on your luggage - for life! They had a 4 letter limit, so I just put my initials ML (for lack of creativity, ok, and I figured I can always go back!) They even had other options and colours such as gold and silver for the font, but I personally preferred the blind embossing.

Another thing is that every TUMI luggage comes with a tracer number which can be registered online. While they can't actually locate the bag (it's not GPS guys), if it is ever found and returned to a TUMI store, they are able to use the 20-digit serial number at the back of the luggage to contact the owner!

Personally, I've learnt a lot about the brand over the last few months, and I definitely see TUMI as brand that combines both form and function. It is the choice bag for many frequent travellers who wish to upgrade, uncomplicate and beautify all aspects of life on the move... and it has a great brand name as well (let's face it guys, you wouldn't buy a thousand dollar luggage just for the luggage itself, ahem.)

So yes, I can't wait for more exciting journeys ahead with this one and a big thank you to the TUMI Marketing team for adding a little luxury into my travels - everyone loves Timmy a lot, and the hubby has already asked if he can borrow him when he goes on his business trips, haha!

Now the question is... Where to next?

The TUMI Latitude collection is now available in stores and online at www.tumi.sg. The Latitude International Carry-On retails at SGD1,090 and is available in silver, black and navy

Pieces of Bali 2017

Posted on Friday, March 23, 2018

Possibly the most useless, yolo holiday of my life in which we hung around Bali for 5 days eating, getting massages and not really doing anything other than maybe one mini adventure out to Uluwatu on the first day I arrived, ahaha.

I really enjoyed the cheap food in large spacious cafes. Our daily $1 mee goreng across the road and the massages at the same hole in the wall cookery every. single. time. just 5 minutes from our hostel. If you told me to check, I would say I spent 80% of my time in Bali in the same 1 kilometre square block, mostly so paralysed by the fear of the impending explosion of Mount Agung (it finally exploded in December 2018, it was September when we went) that we spent our last day there sitting in a nearby cafe (of all places) drinking Sangria till we were tipsy - the things we do :'D

Yet by some miracle, we have pictures to show for the trip. So yep. There was my only holiday of 2017 but some people don't get to travel at all, so I count my blessings and am super grateful for how the current year is going!

Seoul 2015

Posted on Thursday, March 16, 2017

I would literally describe this as a video of E-main in Seoul... guest starring me (since I was behind the camera half the time, hahaha). We went to Korea in April 2015 and I actually pieced this entire video together in one day in July 2015 but just got too lazy to upload it... till now! The videos a little dreamy and slow because I literally didn't take enough footage so... if you don't watch it all it's ok, I'm sorry I'll try make more interesting videos next time :'D

I figured since I put in the work I should share it on this space. Enjoy!

Coast, Boracay

Posted on Tuesday, March 7, 2017

Justin and I pretty thorough and careful when it comes to researching accommodations when traveling, however this time we went against our norm of choosing established places with plenty of reviews and instead, booked our stay at Coast, Boracay which had only been open for 4-5 months or so prior to our visit back in November.

The few reviews it had were stellar, and it looked bright, airy and modern compared to the other dated looking accommodations on the island, so we figured... why not?

We weren't disappointed and loved our stay. The benefits of staying in a new hotel is that everything is super new and clean. The staff were plentiful enthusiastic and extremely proactive in saying hi and asking if we needed help. Justin loved chatting with the security guard at the door, and he told us how the hotel pays them much more than other hotels (the increment of which is not a lot of money for Singapore standards, but significant to the locals, which is great)!

We were spoilt for choice during breakfast, and the hotel exited straight onto the beach (not all hotels in Boracay do - look out for it when booking!) I would say the only mini problems we had were that the wifi wasn't the fastest and the hot water was sporadic to say the least. That said, I loved how our hotel had this super cool palm springs motel feel to it, and the fact that it wasn't overly crowded compared to the resort next door (ahem, Henann). I would definitely recommend staying here - just rolling up to the lobby alone when we first arrived was breathtaking in all it's high-ceilinged airiness and chill vibes.

Anyway, we loved splashing around in the resort pools a lot, which were empty so we didn't have to fight for space; spent a lot of time watching Planet Earth / The Crown in our room (don't ask); hunted the best Filipino food Boracay has to offer - the best places to me were seafood at the D'Talipapa market and Mang Inasal which is like a fast food chain selling grilled chicken - we had to go back on three different occasions to even get a seat there! Also: feasted on calamansi muffins, watched sunsets, and squishy sand walks along the beach at night.

So yeah, I don't know what else one can ask for a holiday!

Boracay Visual Diary

Took a much needed holiday with Justin back in November to Boracay. Why Boracay? I'm not really sure either, to be honest - there are so many potential island vacation destinations in the vicinity of Singapore but somehow we ended up here because I've heard of it enough to peak my curiosity.

The beaches are pretty crowded, and while I understand the draw of white sand beaches to westerners, I guess we take the soft sand for granted since we see it all the time - but the ocean was something else. I don't really island holiday that much, so I was intrigued by how the entire ocean shifts colour according to the day, as if it were an actual living breathing thing with a temperament. From a pale ice blue in the the early morning to a bright azure in the afternoon and subsequently a rich navy as the sun sets.

It was also fascinating how far one can walk out into the ocean and the water only ever grazes your knees - it felt almost surreal as I sat on the beach and watched Justin walk out, to the point where I almost thought he could just keep walking on forever, but he came back to me (phew).

Sometimes I take so many photos on vacation that I need to take a vacation from my photos, haha. I'll put another post up about our hotel stay at Coast, Boracay soon cause we really loved it.
