Plentyfull of Love

Posted on Sunday, July 23, 2017

I think E-main is the busiest girl between planning her wedding and getting her house ready but I super appreciate how she always finds time to meet me! Here's a weekend finally stopping by Plentyfull for some brunch (as always) - I love the dish I ordered, the Fried Organic Eggs & Kin Yan Mushrooms on Sourdough Toast ($16.00++) and even though it's a vegetarian dish and Justin will cry if I ever ordered anything without meat (luckily he wasn't around, haha) - but seriously, though it was really filling and satisfying.

What are Kin Yan Mushrooms, by the way?? I googled it and Kin Yan seems to be a farm in Singapore, and the mushrooms were like a mixture of oyster mushrooms to me / probably were oyster mushrooms. It's so funny to have them in a brunch dish - but it works! It's also nice that Plentyfull's dishes support local farmers. Eggs were great and so huge too, I wouldn't be surprised if they were locally sourced; they burst open in that gorgeous orange colour and were covered in pecorino cheese. Fact: the only time I ever go vegetarian is when either eggs, cheese, mushrooms or eggplants are involved, does anyone feel the same?

Anyway, before our date was over, we already made plans for our next one! Can't wait to see this girl again ♥

Girls Night In with Clinique

Posted on Tuesday, July 18, 2017

So at the start of June Jocelyn from Clinique hinted that we should keep the 30th free for a "secret event" which makes me crazy because I love secrets! This girl would not give up any information at all despite my casual attempts at asking at random times in hopes that she would accidentally let slip some info. We literally did not know a single thing up to the very day until a cab showed up outside our house to bring us to... a house party!

Hello Manda and (other) Monica!

So our brief before arriving was to a) come in all white and b) not wear any make up. Being the well-behaved girl I was, I did just that so excuse my no-make-up face! Haha, I kid. I know I have good skin so going out without make up doesn't freak me out that much. Sorry to disappoint :'D

Anyway those passionfruit cocktails above look super innocent but they were prettyyy potent. Would say that we may have been a wee bit tipsy before we even started the night proper, whoops!

Mama Jocelyn 'SPLAININ

Sort of managed to settle down amidst all the noise we were making to get introduced to Clinique's newly launched Pep Start Range! The packaging is ultra fun, and even the product itself is something I've never tried itself - the Double Bubble Purifying Mask squeezes out in a pink liquid, but rub it in with a little water, leave it alone for 1-2 mins and it becomes all bubbly like the picture above!

May have not used the Pep-Start Pout Perfecting Balm according to instructions :3

Afterwards we were surprised with these personalised silky bathrobes, in which our names were embroidered at the back. We all freaked out when we saw them - so, so cute! It's like something you never knew you needed in your life but now I have one... I love it!

Broke out into smaller groups, did a "no mirror" make up challenge, danced around awkwardly, and maybe should have eaten more of the food being cooked for us outside on the patio before getting ready to finish up our Girls Night In and exchange it for... a Girls Night Out!

But that's another story that I shan't overshare here (since I can't remember half of it anyway, hahaha). It involves a party bus, 4 bottles of Macallan and a constant stream of guys coming around to our table asking Why we were all in white? Was this a bachelorette's party? To which the answer was "Yes" it was Jocelyn's and she hired us off the internet because she has no friends and we forgot to bring her princess crown, or any sort of props that would have made us better bridesmaids. Long story short, they gave us these quizzical looks like we were crazy and left us be, haaa!

Thanks to the Clinique team for organising this unforgettable night!

The Pep-Start range is already available for sale here in Singapore
- give them a follow on Instagram @cliniquesg :D

Pleat-ence

Posted on Thursday, July 13, 2017

At the risk of sounding overly ponderous, having been out from school and worked for 3 years - where do we go from here? Like where does life go and what meaning does it have? We work, get married, get a house, have kids, maybe squeeze some traveling in between, meet up with friends, host some cookouts, get old and then we die and that's it. I know this is a question everyone asks themselves at some point in their lives, but I guess when you were young you had actual "stages" in life - "oh, when I was in Secondary school, or when I was in JC". I guess as a fresh adult the idea is still strange to me how we'll probably now say "oh when I was working at company xxx" or "before I had kids" or "before I was married".

People have said to me that oh no Mon, your life is so exciting because you get to work on your own time / go to a lot of events and I promise you that there are days that are great and I'm so thankful that I get to do what I get to do, but then there are days you wake up and lie on your bed and just can't move from the knowledge that "this is it, this is life".

I've been meeting lots of fellow girls who have quit their jobs to work from home as well and I can say that on some days it is soul crushing from all the lack of social interaction (I can go one day without talking to anyone face to face), on other days you go to sleep thankful that you don't have rush to work in the morning and that you have absolute freedom to do whatever the F you want to do. All I can say is that I am grateful for our tiny blogging community because then there is the excuse to meet up with the same lovely souls again, if not I would literally not see anyone till the weekend.

Anyway, my current understanding is that life is long. There's just a lot of white static in the middle where we work to earn a living so that we can live it.

Brunch at Artichoke

Posted on Monday, July 10, 2017

Justin and I have been to Artichoke so many times for our first 3 years of anniversary dinner so I've kind of been missing it + never had brunch at it so since the responsibility of choosing a brunch location fell to me I figured it would be nice to pay a little once again with these guys! For a late-ish weekend brunch option, the restaurant was really empty - so if you're not into squeezing with the crowds, this is the place to go! Food was good, between the 6 of us we all accidentally had the same 3 variants of food dishes (lol!) - we had the Bacon & Crab Toast, Artichoke Fried Chicken and Lamb Shakshouka! Sangria was really sweet and I kind of revel whenever we drink for brunch cause why not right.

-

Also, as complete side note, being a generally quiet and introverted person my whole life, it's always been normal to be overlooked and forgotten, so I've always been extra appreciative of those who quietly observe and show gratitude, because yes, we all need some no matter how selfless we want to be. I do try so hard sometimes to make everything work for everyone and most days you accept that people just don't care because you're not out there or they don't know you but other days you just want to flip a table for just wanting a simple "thank you"; or to be seen and acknowledged for what you've done. Not knowing someone well is not an excuse for not having manners. Sooo excuse me while I go shout on a rooftop that I am here and alive, guys :'D

Matcha Do About Nothing

Posted on Sunday, July 9, 2017

I've been enjoying having the house literally all to Justin and myself the past two weeks and whipping up whatever comes to my fancy in the middle of the day. This one is greek yogurt with granola, banana and my matcha nut butter from Wild Butter Co (that colour!) So this was my first time doing one of these yogurt bowls and I'm pretty impressed that it looks halfway decent except for a few sploochy yogurt here and there - I've never been much of an artist as a kid or good with my hands (playing around on the computer was more my thing, but I digress).

Anyway, I can't wait for Justin and I to get our own place guys - like I even look forward to doing my own cleaning and being domestic and what not. I think sometimes productivity comes from knowing that no one's going to help you so you have to help yourself, does that make sense?

Loloku for You

Posted on Thursday, July 6, 2017

Just a super slow afternoon at Loloku with dear Isabella (my "weekday friend" ahaha). I love going to restaurants on the weekdays and getting to choose the seat I want. We ended up in Loloku because, well the restaurant is gorgeous + I have a voracious appetite for rice bowls, which leads me to hunt for the best poke bowls in Singapore and I'll definitely say this is near the top of my list! $14.00 for a Medium base bowl with Salmon / Tuna + 4 toppings which I had tobiko (fish roe), edamame, fried shallots and walnuts. (The Large was $16.00, but we found Medium to be just nice for the both of us). I also added $2.00 for avocado cause why not and they were very generous with the portions.

I loved spending the whole day with Bella - eat, chit chat, and after eating, eat some more as we headed down to Afterglow after for dessert cause we just wanted to hang more. I always get pleasantly surprised when food dates extend to let's do more stuff dates, because it's then when you realise that your friends really put aside the whole day for you. I know you're not supposed to be surprised by that but I guess especially these days when everyone is working there's only weekends or like one meal to just catch up so it's still a pleasant surprise and I'm sorry if me saying that makes me sound so despondent, like my friends don't want to hang with me for long (you guys do... right??? :'D)

I meant it more like I am appreciative when people put aside time for you despite busy schedules. I always believe and have probably said this before but people are never too "busy" to see you, but it probably just means you aren't a priority in their lives... which is fine too. Can't be a priority in everyone's life - one would die from the commitment, haha. So yeah. Is this adult life? Seeing friends once every couple of months. I guess it is.
