Sakura Season

How many pictures of flowers can one take?

I was feeling gross and under the weather just before meeting Sujin and Ryan for our double date to see to Gardens by the Bay, but there's nothing quite like walking around and literally stopping to smell the flowers to make one forget about any health impediments! I've been to Tokyo and Korea before but missed the Cherry Blossom season, so I'm glad we got to absorb some semblance of Spring here in Singapore by checking out the Sakura exhibit at the Flower Dome out - it was indeed the full experience - crowds included, haha.

Fun tourist tip: Buy and print your tickets online before coming down so that you don't have to queue up at the ticket booth outside (it was $12.00 for Singaporeans to just the Flower Dome)! Hence, we breezed past the insanely long line outside the dome cause ain't nobody got time for that. Though, haha, oops there were even more queues to the exhibit inside that no amount of pre-planning could skip, so we still had to do some form of lining up in the end anyway :'D

We unilaterally agreed our favourite was the white Sakuras (there are so many varieties and they all smell faintly like almonds!), took plenty of pictures because after a while they all look the same, and despite the people sea, I think the crowd was very well managed by the security guards (cause this is Singapore, duh).

I admit that I got so caught up, a few days later I bough sakura buns to eat for the first time. I've never eaten anything sakura flavoured before, #fact. Yes, almond taste / smell was there.

One Sunday

A really fulfilling Sunday at Ang and Jane's condo - I think it's kinda funny how what always is suppose to be just a morning-lunch event always ends up being a full scale whole day outing kinda thing! It went from eating yummy takeaway food (I am all for low maintenance logistic arrangements for group gatherings, haha); to swimming (or should I say splashing); and then some "Jackbox Party Pack 3" trivia gaming up in the house (GIRLS RULED); all the way into the night for dinner - but it's cool how everyone just comes along for the ride! Even Mimi the Japanese Spitz came along today (yay, thanks Jane for bringing her). She is the greediest dog ever and only has eyes for food, not other dogs, haha, but she entertains us a lot.

Also, Neutrogena sent me five whole different suncreens to use which I am loving because I've been needing new sunscreen and it came at such an appropriate time before our pool party!

Of the five sunscreens, two are new additions: the Neutrogena Sheer Zinc Dry Touch SPF50+ PA++++ (S$31.90) for daily use by people like myself with Eczema (it has been awarded with the US-based National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance in 2016); and the  Neutrogena Beach Defense SPF70 PA++++ (S$28.90) which we lathered up with before swimming since it's waterproof (and seawater-proof!) for up to 80 minutes.

Lastly, if you spend above $30.00 of any Neutrogena products at Watsons, Unity, Guardian, Market Place or Cold Storage, you can get a free sun hat like the one I featured above - which is super value if you think about it since each sunblock is $30.00 already! Might I add that the hat is super well-made as the words are embroidered - not printed on. They have a few different and equally instagram-worthy designs as well, while stocks last!

Summer 2016

I'm not sure at what age do you get when you can't hang around the beach in tiny swimsuits anymore, but I know I'm definitely not there yet, so we skedaddled down to Tanjong Beach Club as Trish's treat for me turning 25 (whoo thanks)! Hid from the sun, sipped fresh coconuts, took a few too many beach selfies and tickled ourselves with comments from Sujin like "resting my coconut on my coconuts, guys" (this girl did not bring a bikini, by the way). It felt like we were catching the last bits of Summer, especially since Trish is leaving for London next week full time but I know, I know we live in the tropics and it's basically Summer all year round... but really, Summer is a state of mind guys.

Anyway, it started pouring on our way down to TBC, but you wouldn't know from the pictures because the moment we reached the rain stopped and the sun came out. Guess things work out how they are meant to be, and even if it didn't, we chill AF!

Kelong Adventure!

Instead of having our usual seafood feast on Singapore shores, we decided to head out to the source itself - the Kelong and fish farms! It's been about 5-6 years since I last stepped on one, and this is Justin's first time on a Singaporean one so he was quite apprehensive about the quality of the seafood (since our waters aren't the cleanest), but we were super surprised by how fresh the ingredients were (the drunken prawns were a standout!). And since Jo and Mok couldn't come (boo!), we literally had more than our fill of seafood cause normally there never is enough (so no boo? HAHA, kidding, you guys were missed!)

To get to the Kelong, we took a boat (about 15-20 mins out) which was $80.00 for 10 pax. For the food it was $350.00 minimum, regardless of the number of people. There was 8 of us but it was more than enough - I suppose 10 pax would have been just nice! We had to bring our own drinks, but there were amenities such as a cooler on the Kelong so we didn't need to bring ice, phew. There are other Kelongs you can go to, and the price would probably differ. Drop me a message if you want to know the contact :)

So yep, a  nice change of activities and things to do on (or off?) our little island. Who says Singapore is boring?
