Boracay Visual Diary

Posted on Tuesday, February 28, 2017

(Quote "MONICAxGRANA" for 10% off + free shipping till March 2017)

Took a much needed holiday with Justin back in November to Boracay. Why Boracay? I'm not really sure either, to be honest - there are so many potential island vacation destinations in the vicinity of Singapore but somehow we ended up here because I've heard of it enough to peak my curiosity.

The beaches are pretty crowded, and while I understand the draw of white sand beaches to westerners, I guess we take the soft sand for granted since we see it all the time - but the ocean was something else. I don't really island holiday that much, so I was intrigued by how the entire ocean shifts colour according to the day, as if it were an actual living breathing thing with a temperament. From a pale ice blue in the the early morning to a bright azure in the afternoon and subsequently a rich navy as the sun sets.

It was also fascinating how far one can walk out into the ocean and the water only ever grazes your knees - it felt almost surreal as I sat on the beach and watched Justin walk out, to the point where I almost thought he could just keep walking on forever, but he came back to me (phew).

Sometimes I take so many photos on vacation that I need to take a vacation from my photos, haha. I'll put another post up about our hotel stay at Coast, Boracay soon cause we really loved it.

When the Days Turn to One

Posted on Friday, February 24, 2017

Hey guys, is February over already? I don't know where my time went but I feel funnily I already feel like a different person now from the start of the year but in a good and kind of liberated way.

Anyway, Fresh sent me a little surprise package earlier in the month with their Vitamin Nectar Vibrancy-Boosting Face Mask (S$105.00, 100ml), I tried it out because it's supposed to give instant brightening results and, haha, as someone who is super fair I can vouch that I literally got fairer! It's cool but also a little of a surprise since I didn't think that was possible, haha - it's best to use the mask 2-3 times a week tops as the formula is very rich with Vitamin C, E and B5.

That aside, the mask itself has a delicious and notable citrus aroma, which floats around even after washing it off.  I like that it is also a very light mask and it feels kind of casual and fun to apply - literally did it without a mirror, which I promise you, is a feat. Texture wise, I would describe it as being juicy, pulpy and sticky, and the bits of orange peel definitely continue to lend to the feeling of spreading marmalade on your face - personally I don't mind, marmalade is actually one of my favourite spreads for toast - how about you?

Hair on Fire

Posted on Wednesday, February 8, 2017

Updated my hair colour to this red-brown burgundy hue just in time for the Chinese New Year courtesy of Blow+Bar (and Iris from Adjectif, of course!) I wanted to keep it dark at the roots so that it grows out a little easier, so we'll see how that goes, haha.  I've been a little more experimental with my hair the past couple of years, I think my next plan is to grow it super long while I still can pull it off.

This was a super busy and productive day, wish all days were like this. Had 3 back to back appointments, after which I got cramps, went home and lay in bed and started watched Skam (my Norwegian show) which has basically taken over my life the whole of January in a very unproductive but eye-opening way. The boyfriend does not condone my inner fan-girl but it's hard to unpack all your feelings when hardly anyone you know watches it (sob). Anyway, the need to dissect my emotions is strong. I think it comes with working alone too much - I'm literally bouncing around at home waiting for my next chance to go out, even if it means just working outside. Some days I feel like exploding from all the energy I have and then the other part tells me to be responsible and just sit down and do your work. Does anyone have a cure for this thirst?

Hello, 2017

Posted on Sunday, February 5, 2017

So we're well into Chinese New Year now but I'm just gonna be blogging about our last day of 2016 cause it's better late than never, haha. We decided to change our NYE plans up a bit this year since Ngiap had a room at The Sail thanks to his company (and thanks to Ngiap for sharing!!) Potluck, whiskey balls, some very smokey fireworks and after which venturing out to Beauty in a Pot at 3am for our first and very awesome meal of the year (they have 20% off if you go really late at night + no queue!)

I can't say I'm sorry to say by to 2016, it was a pretty tough year not just for the whole world but for my personal little world as well. I know that nothing really changes just because it's a "new" year but I guess it's nice to think that we all get somewhat of a clean slate. So far 2017 seems to be doing alright, that's all I can say.

I don't really make resolutions, but I do feel have this weird feeling at the bottom of my stomach that keeps reminding me that this year I tip towards closer to 30 than to 20 (I'll be 26, ok) and the kid part of my life is basically over sooo in light of everything, I guess this year... I just want to feel alive. Throw stuff at me, life. I'm ready.

Guerlain x Sephora Hauls

Posted on Wednesday, February 1, 2017

Since Valentine's Day is almost here, Sephora Singapore kindly gave me a little shopping budget to treat mahself to their range of Guerlain products available online!

So for obvious reasons I was drawn to their Meteorites range because of the pretty pastel colours BUT also because their star product is the Meteorites Pearls which literally evvverryonee talks about online. Sadly for me it was sold out in my shade, so I opted for the Meteorites Compact (in Medium) which anyway seems more travel friendly. I feel that the Meteorites as a product is a nice to have, but not necessarily a must-have if you are just starting out on makeup as it does come at S$84.00 a palette - I would add it on after all my make-up to give my skin that extra luminosity and colour correction if I'm feeling fancy, as it's supposed to be really subtle and sheer.

I also picked out their Eyebrow Kit (S$65.00) because I couldn't resist how cute and compact it was, and that it had 3 different browns + 1 highlighter so I can blend and customise it according to my own eyebrows (goodness knows how lazy I am when it comes to carrying make up out so this is super handy???)

So yep, what pretty things do you guys like to treat yourselves to on Valentine's Day?
