I'm not sure if I miss exchange or the concept of exchange more.
Need. To. Go. Cold. Country. Now.

I only had three full days left in Karlsruhe after my exams finished, so it was a huge rush to meet all the people I wanted to see before I left Germany indefinitely, and of course, Giulia was one of them! She was my first friend in Karlsruhe - when I couldn't find a house, she let me bunk in her gigantic hostel room FOC for a night while we both frantically apartment searched, and I ended up staying a week till we settled our accoms :) Yes, I randomly asked an Italian girl I had only met for a couple of hours if I could stay in her room (I seem to have a habit of doing that), but we both know desperation makes you a little crazy, and luckily there are kindred spirits such as lovely Giulia around!

It's PIZZA NIGHT! One thing Giulia promised me is that she will make me Italian pizza from scratch before I leave, and she really goes all out to get all kinds of ingredients to bring over to my place! Mozzarella, champignions, potatoes, peppers, tomato sauce... you name it!

Giulia made the pizza dough from scratch in the morning because it needs time to rise, and then she uses a GLASS to roll it out. How cool is that?

I tell Giulia I have olive oil, but she insists on bringing hers, because it's the legit stuff that she brought all the way from Italy. Liking this more and more!

We get busy prepping the ingredients! Giulia shows me how to carve peppers properly (oops) and I amuse myself watching her shred the mozzarella onto the pizza because I've never seen proper mozzarella being done. So used to those yellowish, store bought, pre-shredded ones, but this ain't it!

Finishing off the pizza with toppings! We have 4 different flavours on 2 massive pan-sized pizzas - plus it's thin crust - my fave! Giulia shows me a jar of what she calls "carciofini" that her grandma bottled and gave for her to bring to Germany. So cute! She doesn't know what they are called in English, so I try guessing, but eventually we Google translate it, and... they're artichoke hearts! D'oh!
