Spin to Win

It's been a while since I've blogged about anything just for fun, but here is an evening not too long ago in which we found ourselves all the way at the new Timezone in Vivocity. If you feel all nostalgic about the 90s, then this is definitely the place to be.

They have all the popular games from bishy bashy to para para, usual arcade classics like basketball and car racing, but also massive, modern flashy machines that look like they could only be from the future (guess we reached it), hell, they even have the old school ticket printing machines! (Which, ahem, are lots of fun but also a bit of a waste on the environment as we realised at the end that they just get shredded up after the machine count them - won't be doing this again whoops).

The place was crowded with families but not overwhelmingly so. They have birthday packages for kids and prize redemptions with OK prizes (as expected), but there was, an iPad up for grabs, though sheer amount of tickets needed may actually mean it would be more worth it to just walk out and buy one yourself, hahaha.

Anyway if you are heading down, it's worth noting that there's 1-For-1 at Timezone on the Entertainer! After a hard couple of hours of throwing balls at clowns and smacking plastic buttons till our hands were sore, we, like any self-respecting adults who were still awake late in the night, decided to find the nearest open hotpot place - which in this case was Hai Di Lao (and also conveniently located in Vivo) and rolled off to it. Not bad for a night's work!

Diner En Blanc 2018

I've always had a low-key dream to one day attend Diner En Blanc, and I guess dreams do come true because I got to follow dear Hilary and Cee - honestly, the best people to go for it because I don't know which other crazy girls in the world would stand their ground while everyone was running for shelter from the downpour to get the perfect pictures of our table setting and outfits before the light disappeared, bahaha (and yes, it was raining in these photos, can you tell?)


For those of you who don't know, Diner En Blanc is a worldwide pop-up picnic held once yearly in which the location is a secret and not revealed till the actual day itself. Everyone is required to dressed to the nines in H-to-T white and bring their own tables, linens, and everything you need to have the fancy chi-chi all white picnic of your dreams... with a 1000 other people. It really is quite a scene to see a sea of white meandering towards the very mysterious secret location, which turned out to be behind the F1 Pit Building this year with the backdrop of the Gardens by the Bay and Marina Bay Sands around us.

Fortunately for us we already had tables, linens and cutlery part set up, so we just had to bring our own food! We got so many compliments for our platter, courtesy of Wynona from Lush Platters, who did up a custom one just for us to suit the theme of Diner En Blanc.


I'm a huge lover of cured meats and cheese and Wynona did not hold back, giving us everything truffle cheese (gouda and saverin loaded with fresh honeycomb), a huge pot of hummus, prosciutto, salami, fruits, crackers... you name it, we had it. And superbly presented, at that. Even the bread was fantastic and artisan - any foodie would give this a thumbs up. I only wish I had stomach space to have eaten more, but trust me, we were stuffed by the end of the night.


Our flowers were also done by the most generous Toki, 
who absolutely nailed the look we were going for our table setting!


We drank champagne non-stop, chit-chatted enjoyed the performances and had our fill of good food under the night sky. While the event itself is fun, I also fondly remember the fun all the way up to the day itself planning with the girls what we would wear, what food to get and working together on table decor so that we would have the picnic of our dreams. I suppose you could say it's another one off the checklist, but I'm secretly looking forward to next year's one already!

Supporting Breast Cancer with Estee Lauder

October is Breast Cancer awareness month, and it was really nice to kick it off with a not-so-little light up of CHIJMES in pink! This year was extra special because it was also the 25th anniversary of the Estee Lauder Companies' Breast Cancer campaign, #RethinkPink and #PinkRibbon25.


The campaign was founded by Evelyn Lauder herself, and a lot of progress and awareness has been made these years - Breast Cancer mortality rates having decreased by 38% since the late 1980s. Nowadays it's common to see brands pledging support for Breast Cancer - but Estee Lauder was the first to do so in 1993 and are the ones behind creating the pink ribbon symbol, how amazing is that? The company has raised $70 million to date to fund research, and it was great to pledge our support and be part of the cause for one night.

Anddd of course, we also had a lot of fun - showed up in full force in pink, ate pink-themed food, drank wine out of pink paper cups in pink flamingo floats, but also listened to some of the speeches of Breast Cancer and watched the light up itself, which was pretty spectacular.

Cancer is so common these days that everyone knows someone who is affected, be it the actual patient, the caregiver or friends and family. Early detection gives the best chance of survival (5-year survival rates are more than 90% if cancer is found early) so do make sure you and your family check yourselves regularly!

Turning 26 - Part 1

Turned 26 on 22nd August but have been sitting on these photos since (luckily, birthdays aren't like New Year's where you have to make resolutions such as being less slow with my blog posts, hah!) It was still a great day anyway, felt so loved and for a first step into the next quarter century of my life, it feels like I've come a long way from who I was growing up to who I am now.

Woke up in the morning anxious that Justin had overslept for work but he was like "ha no I took leave and we have a staycation for the next 3 days!" So I packed my bag in a whirlwind before heading out to meet...


...Janine! Who was on leave and treated me to Hai Di Lao (been craving steamboat like mad - it's like she just knew!)


Ugh ok I need to eat HDL again now.

We also got our nails done, which proved very useful for later (didn't know yet that Justin was planing to propose that day, but it was pretty suspect because he booked that staycation and kept telling me days before to get my hair done!)


And got my hair done I did, thanks to Kerastase, who always gets my hair sorted before big events! I usually go in to get the Fusio-Dose Treatment, which by the way also comes with a neck and head massage on top of, of course, treating hair. Seriously best way to spend a birthday pampering yourself! Big thanks to the ladies at Picasso Hair Studio for also taking extra care to curl my hair and feed me hot tea because I wasn't feeling well (ahem *period ok*)


Justin planned us a fantastic dinner at Mikuni, which was just walking distance from the JW Marriott South Beach (yes that was our secret staycation spot!) And the food was so so good plus, guess what? 50% off because of Eatigo. So proud of my man for always finding the best deals, I told him I expected no less :'D (And hey, the restaurant wasn't cheap anyway!)


Ok I ended up taking the dinner set because it was full of seafood which I love, so the 50% doesn't apply to that, but it was honestly quite value for $98++ with lobster, oysters, sashimi, and what not. All the other mains that Justin had for his were half price, like the swordfish sashimi which was amazing. I eat sashimi so much, I asked myself how much better can raw fish taste right.

The answer is a lot.


Definitely need to go back when I'm feeling less sickly so that I can enjoy this better! But still very memorable, which goes to show how good it was!


And of course Justin didn't book such a big room if he wasn't planning to fill it with friends! Came back after dinner to a "surprise" (ok it was kinda obvious), but still super touched that everyone took the time on a weekday after work to come down and celebrate with us. They all thought they would get to witness the proposal but Justin and I were like haha, nope, we did it before dinner! But we ate cake, drank and were merry, so all was good!



Fun fact: the ring was Justin's Grandmother's engagement ring, and subsequently his mother's which is simultaneously meaningful and absolutely terrifying because it's basically a family heirloom, which means I really, really have to take really good care of it.


Definitely one of the most memorable birthdays ever!

I know it's cheesey to say I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with this fatty one but honestly no one knows me better than him, or is more patient and generous. Anyway, I'm not one for writing sappy things online because I usually just tell it to his face, so that's all there is!

For everyone who's been asking when the wedding is, probably 2019 because we're settling our house first, just collected the keys in September :)
