Food Glorious Food!

Posted on Monday, May 6, 2013

Justin's passion is cooking, and there's hardly any fun in doing so without sharing it with some friends! As usual, to celebrate the end of semester, we hosted a cookout at Justin's house and invited over 20 friends over to feast! Cooking for 20 people was no mean feat. Justin started prep 4 whole days in advanced, and I just helped wherever I could like chopping veggies and such (hey it's hard work).

Here's the menu!

Mughal Curry!

Oops I screwed up the signage for this a bit. There were chunks of sinewy lamb in this, which fell apart easily at the touch - oh, and at my request, tons of cumin seeds! Yum :D

Nasi Lemak!

Ok you'll probably balk if you knew how much coconut milk was in this, but it was a nice sticky filler for everyone!

Pesto Chicken Thighs!

I never knew that there was cheese in pesto! We had to do a lot of prep work for this because of all the different veggies to cut, to boil, and then blend together with a food processor. But I think the result was really good! Not over oily like some pestos, and unused blocks can be frozen for future use!

Hello early comers!

This is Justin's prize winner - roasted pork belly! One giant hunk of meat cooked for 3 hours to perfection. Juicy and fatty on the inside, with the skin all crackled, blistered and bubbled for the crunch. Needless to say, everyone was queuing up and killing each other for this haha.

Serving John his pork belly! He was the most enthusiastic patron of the night because he came on time and ate so much, which is a great compliment to the chef haha.

Entertaining everyone with Jenga and movies. The playlist for the night was The Devil Wears Prada and Hitch. Both pretty good movies to entertain a big group because they are lighthearted, rewatchable (so people who watched it before won't be bored), and funny! Haha sometimes one of the biggest issues with organizing parties is wondering how to entertain adults.

And that's more or less it! I was pretty lazy to take more photos. I remember we had to off the lights halfway through because it was going to rain and those horrible flies were coming into the house. The issues that come with living in a tropical country! Anyway we were pretty happy that more or less all the food was finished! These cookouts fuel Justin's passion for cooking, and it was great that everyone came down to support it and contribute to it so that he can get the best ingredients and continue making awesome food! 'Til the next cook out!
