La Cuisson, More French Food in Singapore

Posted on Friday, May 10, 2013

If you're looking for affordable French food options in Singapore that aren't Saveur, Justin and I discovered La Cuisson, located at Holland Drive, just a 10 minute walk away from Holland Village!

The shop was in a modest corner of the hawker center, with just one chef running the whole place, but despite the casual environment, our food came served on proper plates, just like a restaurant!

Can never resist ordering Foie Gras if it's on the menu! The La Cuisson version came as a Foie Gras Salad ($10.00+), and what yummy salad it was! There was a very strong taste of lemongrass in the dressing, not something I've tasted before with a salad. The lobe of foie gras itself was a decent size, similar to Saveur, but I would say higher quality because of the colour (bright yellow!) and not too strong a liver taste.

I order the Sous Vide Pork Neck ($15.00+)! Justin is a little ruffled since his speciality is sous vide ("I can make that for you!"), but I want to try it anyway to compare! Teehee. Pork neck is notoriously hard to cook properly - it's basically cheap meat, and if done wrong, can go very tough and dry. The La Cuisson one was nothing like that though. Because of the style of cooking, it's tender and moist on the inside, lying on a bed of warm mash and what looks like a little mustard sauce to dip it into. The dish is also complimented with the purple salad, which i'm not really a fan of because I don't like purple veggie. But other than that, it's a great choice!

Justin has the Angus Hanging Tender ($18.00+), which I can't review because I don't eat beef, but he says it's perfectly cooked for him. Medium rare! It actually does look very tender like it's name, haha!

Overall, I'd say that La Cuisson isn't AS cheap as Saveur, but definitely the portions are much larger and of higher quality meat. There seems to be a bit of a miscommunication online as to whether the shop is called Le Cuisson, or La Cuisson, but the restaurant signboard said La Cuisson, and French grammar confirms it should be La Cuisson, so that's it!
