Dirty Fingers @ The Cajun Kings
Posted on Monday, August 12, 2013
Decided to be adventurous and headed out to the very ulu Jalan Riang with my favourite foodie to try out the Cajun Kings a couple of weeks ago! Definitely recommended to drive there because it's in the middle of a housing estate and quite a walk in from any bus stop.

Hallelujah we found it!

The place was surprisingly full for a weekday. Luckily we had a reservation! Service staff were rather unfriendly and didn't want to seat us at somewhere with better light to take better pictures of their food. Meh! Luckily for... post-processing!

We order beer because we think it'll go well with all the fried and oily food, but it didn't go well with the food as the spicyness made the beer taste really bland. Definitely don't make the same mistake, guys, and go for the soft drinks instead!

Fried food and bibs come first, andddd we're all ready to go!

Did some research about the Cajun Kings before we came and one thing I was looking forward to was the Pork Cracklings ($7.00++). They were quite disappointing because they were pork but they sure ain't crackling! Very soggy, and Justin said that proper cracklings are purely the skin of the pork, not the meat. He da real foodie. Would not order this if we came again!

Next up, Buttermilk Frog Legs ($15.00++)! Tasted as good as they sound! Justin and I love this stuff and were squabbling over who gets the fatty part. If you've never eaten frog legs before, it really does taste just like chicken, as long as you don't think about it! These were warm and crispy, with just a hint of spice from the sprinkles of paprika over it. We also loved the dips that it came with. Yummy!

Cajun Fries ($6.00++) are just fries with paprika on them. We don't finish this because it's filling and average. At least it came free with our TCK Combo below so we didn't really waste our money!

And the highlight of the meal! We ordered the TCK Combo ($65.00++), which is a big bag consisting of 500g of Red Sea Prawns, 250g of Manila Clams, 6 Sausages, 1 corn, and the Cajun Fries from just now! You get to choose which dressing we want out of the OG Mix, Garlic butter, and the King's Mix, and we chose the latter at the highest level of spicy (which was seriously spicy till my nose started dripping). But it was good stuff! Got our hands really messy and dirty because that's the spirit of things (so no pictures), and I'm not sure why everyone else in the restaurant still looked so clean, while we ploughed through our big baggie of seafood like we'll never eat the stuff again, but we really didn't care because we were both so unglam, it's cool. Haha.
One thing is I wish they had more clams and less prawns! Probably will order the individual portions in future instead of the set!

And the destruction after the meal!
All in all, although some of the food was rather average, Justin and I definitely had a lot of fun with the main part of our meal which was picking and tearing apart everything we could find in the bag without judgement from anyone, plus the sauce was so shiok and tasty, it almost overwhelmed us! Justin says he'll definitely go back again with his guy friends to do more manly ripping apart of seafood, and I do think that it is a pretty interesting and fun concept for those who don't mind getting their fingers dirty for the fun of it! Prissy people stay away!
